Paul M. Ash

Paul Michael Ash, 63, Ferdinand, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at 9:13 a.m. at his home.

Born May 16, 1949, in Chicago, he was the son of Mary Jane Grosvenor Ash of Paoli and the late Robert Ash Sr.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, retired in 2010 as co-publisher and co-owner of DSC Publishing Co. Inc., publishers of the Ferdinand News and Spencer County Leader, a member of the Indiana Karst Conservancy, Ferdinand VFW Post 11365, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 and National Speleological Society and an accomplished singer-songwriter who was awarded an Indiana Arts Commission Grant to write songs focused on Indiana history.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Oscar Wigand, and a brother, Dr. Donald Ash.

Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife of 34 years, the former Miriam Tretter; a daughter, Carla Striegel-Winner of Ferdinand; and two brothers, Robert Ash Jr. of Elma, Wash., and Chris Wigand of Paoli.

Visitation: Monday, April 1, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.

Funeral: Monday, April 1, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the newly established Paul Michael Ash Art and Music Fund within the Ferdinand Endowment at the Dubois County Community Foundation.
