Eileen M. Nelson

Eileen Matilda Nelson, 88, of Schnellville, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at 2:19 a.m. at her home.

Born Oct. 28, 1924, in Schnellville, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Clara Boeglin Schnell.

She earned a diploma from Nazareth School of Nursing, St. Joseph Infirmary, in Louisville in 1945, and started her career as an R.N. in the Army Nursing Corps. She later worked at Stork Hospital in Huntingburg and at Midland (Texas) Memorial Hospital spending the majority of her career caring for elderly patients at Mile-Hi Nursing home in Lakewood, Colo., and Providence Home in Jasper. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, Sacred Heart St. Annís Society, St. Vincent De Paul, Farm Bureau, Schnellville Community Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Schnellville Quilting Club and Home Economics Club.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Schnell.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Jack Nelson; six daughters, Jane Bromley of Lubbock, Texas, Mary Hutchison of Soldotna, Ark., Margaret Reilly of Palisade, Colo., Catherine Werner of Boulder, Colo., Laura Ruud of Sparks, Nev., and Teresa Kimminau of Huntsville, Ala.; seven sons, David Nelson of Mazomanie, Wis., Daniel Nelson of Midland, Texas, Joseph Nelson of Golden, Colo., Thomas Nelson of Jasper, Arnold Nelson of Kasilof, Ark., John Nelson of Normandy Park, Wash., and Timothy Nelson of Montgomery; two sisters, Alvina Knust of Schnellville and Anna Mae Haury of Evansville; 55 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and Wednesday, Oct. 16, after 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville. The Sacred Heart St. Annís Society will pray a rosary Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral: Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m. at the church with burial in the church cemetery.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund or to the donorís favorite charity.
