Leo E. Lavin

Leo E. Lavin, 75, Milan, N.M., died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at his home.

Born July 24, 1938, in West Fork, he was the son of the late Thomas and Bridget Lavin.

He graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1957 and earned a bachelorís and masterís degrees from Indiana State University in Terre Haute and a degree in special education from Indiana University in Bloomington. He was a teacher and administrator at various schools in Indiana before moving to New Mexico in 1981 and retired in 2007 as director of special education for the Grants/Cibola County schools. He was a member of the New Mexico Association of Educational Retirees and St. Teresa Catholic Church in Grants, N.M.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jessie Pennington of Augusta, Ga.

Survivors include a brother, Edward Lavin of County Galway, Ireland, and two sisters, Edna McAndrews and Helen Wilson, both of Indianapolis.

Visitation: Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 to 11 a.m. slow time at Holy Cross Catholic Church at St. Croix.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. slow time at the church with burial in the church cemetery.

Arrangements: Denbo Funeral Home in English.

The family suggests memorial gifts to Holy Cross Church or to the donorís favorite charity.

    Many Memories of the Lavin family--Edna and I were best friends at school at One room school "West Point" in Crawford Co.
    Lots of good times we had together back then. Edward ad I correspond on the computer.
