The Crawford County Board of Commissioners heard an update on the Patoka Water Co. project involving the county at the commissioners’ Nov. 10 meeting.

The commissioners were the applicant for the water company for a grant funded through the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs and awarded Aug. 6.

Jenny Matheis of Indiana 15 Regional Planning Commission said final design of the tower is underway. Midwest Engineers is designing the project.

The PWC will use the $600,000 grant, along with a match of $293,000, to construct a new water storage tank. The matching funds will come from a loan and PWC funds, said Matheis.

The new tank, to be built adjacent to the current one, will be about 110 feet tall and will hold approximately 100,000 gallons of water.

Matheis said the bid deadline is the end of February with a release of funds by April 20. “We’re ecstatic we’re finally getting this together,” she said.

The commissioners also heard information regarding an option from Beacon Schneider, which manages the website for the surveyor’s office information.

The company now offers the option of hosting advertising, with the county setting the rate schedule. If the county enters a two-year contract, the set-up fee will be waived. The annual cost would be $2,700 per year.

“It looks like to me it’s a pretty good idea,” said commissioner Dan Crecelius, noting it would be nice to recoup some funds through advertising.

Plat information and deeds are updated to the website daily, and there have been 4,500 visits to it this year.

The commissioners agreed to move forward with the option as long as Surveyor Reggie Timberlake is agreeable.
